Global warming
Global warming is a known worldwide problem that has been significantly increasing throughout the years. It started as far back as the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution is the beginning of all these problems, especially those caused by factories, which are highly dangerous to the environment. It was the start of the ozone layer depleting which is now causing the polar ice sheets to melt in the arctic due to the temperature rising. Today there are many different situations that are hurting not only the environment, but also earth itself and its atmosphere. The burning of coal and oil as a source of energy is causing air pollution and acid rain. One of the most dangerous and hazardous problems which is the release of chemicals, has destroyed the ozone layer, which is allowing a significant amount of ultraviolet radiation to reach earth's surface. Alice Walker has a strong opinion on global warming and she had said, " All that fuel of various kinds being used. It pollutes the air and water of this very fragile and interconnected planet." Her and many others believe this. They believe the main error that is happening today is the use of fuels. In the near future this can result in the damage of many populations of plants and soil erosion, which could be a severe problem for farms all around the world. Actually, recently there was the first air quality alert of 2013 in the Washington, DC area. The alert level is code orange, which indicates the air is unhealthy for sensitive groups. The American Lung Association ranked D.C. the 9th worst area for ozone air pollution. If things aren't changed the rest of the world will be just as bad. Global warming is a huge issue that needs to be solved now rather than later.
Industrial revolution
The Industrial Revolution which began in Britain during the 1700's was both a positive and a negative for the planet people call Earth. The Industrial Revolution was when countries started to create new things that helped with daily life and improved the speed things were created. The Industrial Revolution was also a huge factor for the environment. During the Industrial Revolution humans started creating inventions that would produce more good like varies inventions to produce crops , textiles, manufacturing and transportation. For businesses to manufacture these new goods they had to create huge factories. These factories helped produce more goods but hurt the environment. The factories destroyed land were trees once grew, burned harmful materials and polluted water. The factories burned fossil fuels like coal which burns through the earths atmosphere. When the earth has a hole in the ozone layer temperatures will rise and seriously effect life on the planet. The Industrial Revolution was one of the major events in the history of global warming but also a starting point. Some of the effects that we see today is the polar ice sheets in the arctic melting because of the up-rise of the temperatures that could have been caused due to the Industrial Revolution. The decrease in ice caused many animals to also struggle for survival. So global warming has effected not only temperatures but also other animals and land masses.
fACTORIES BURNED HARMFUL MATERIALS HURT THE ENVIRONMENT
Factories burned fossil fuels which deteriorated the environment killing the planet we live on today. This picture from the Industrial Revolution showed how we interacted with our environment and how much we impacted it.
How does this relate to the theme?
The Industrial Revolution relates to the theme because during this time period factories were produced that destroyed land and burned fossil fuels like coal that polluted the environment which ultimately helped produce the term global warming. The interactions we have with the environment change it every single day. Global warming is used to describe the biggest problem we have today. In the near future, with the cooperation of everyone on planet Earth, hopefully, the environment won't only be rescued but will also be protected for the future.
